Getting started

How do I make my first call?

Get a free key, then call GET /v1/games?date=today with it in the Authorization: Bearer header. The documentation has the same call in curl, Python, JavaScript and PHP.

Read the quick start

Is there a free key, and what does it read?

Yes, with no card: yesterday, today and the games scheduled ahead in every league, 50 calls a day and 10 a minute. Past seasons and odds need a paid plan.

Compare the plans

Which leagues do you cover?

Over 1,200 leagues and tournaments, from the NHL and the big European leagues to junior and lower tiers, with seasons back to 1917. /v1/leagues lists them all.

Browse the leagues

Can I use it from Claude or another assistant?

Yes. The MCP server gives an assistant the same data as the API, with your key. It takes two steps to connect.

Set up the MCP server

Keys and plans

How do I send my key?

In the Authorization: Bearer header or in X-API-Key. A key in the address is refused, so it never ends up in a log.

Read about keys

Which plan has the old seasons?

Archive has every past season back to 1917. Complete has those and the current seasons together, with the highest limits.

See what each plan reads

What happens when I reach my limit?

Calls past the limit get a 429 with the time it resets. Every reply carries X-RateLimit-Remaining, so you can slow down before it happens.

Read about limits

Can I have more than one key?

Yes, as many as you need, each with its own name and its own count of calls. They share your plan’s limit.

The data

Which leagues have goals, line-ups and player lines?

The NHL from 1917, Liiga, the SHL and HockeyAllsvenskan, the AHL, ECHL, OHL, WHL, QMJHL and USHL, the KHL, MHL and VHL, the Czech Extraliga, the DEL and DEL2, and the Swiss National League and Swiss League. /v1/coverage lists the seasons for each.

Read about box scores

What is in a box score?

Periods, every goal with scorer, assists and strength, every penalty, skater lines (goals, assists, plus/minus, shots, blocks, faceoffs, time on ice) and goalie lines, plus officials and attendance where the league records them.

See a full box score

Do you have shot positions?

For the NHL from 2009-10: every shot with its rink position, shooter and goalie. Earlier NHL seasons name the shooter and goalie on each shot without a position.

Read about play by play

Which odds do you have?

Three-way, moneyline, puck line and totals, as opening, closing and average prices, for finished games in every league we price.

Read about odds

Why is a very old game’s date empty?

Some early games are recorded with their season but not their day. Their date is null rather than a guess.

Read about dates

A score looks wrong. What do I do?

Open a ticket with the game’s id. We check it against the league’s own record and correct it at the source, so the fix reaches every call.

Report a score

Live and freshness

How soon does a result arrive?

Within about 10 minutes of the final buzzer in every league, with the start time and whether it ended in regulation, overtime or a shootout. Times are UTC.

Read about results

Do you have games in progress?

Yes, for the NHL: the score, the period and the clock, read every minute while a game is on.

Read about live games

How do I see how many calls I have used?

Your account shows each key’s calls by day, and /v1/usage gives the same figures to your code.

Read about usage

How do I know if something is down?

The status page shows the website, the API and the MCP server, checked every minute, with any incident and its updates.

See status

Ids and names

Are ids stable?

Yes. A game, team, player or league keeps its id for good, even when a club is renamed or moves city.

Read about ids

Can I look a team up by its name?

Yes. Names are matched loosely, so ska, SKA St Petersburg and the team’s id all find the same team.

Read about search

How are renamed clubs handled?

A club keeps one id through every name it has had, and each season lists the name it played under that year.

Billing and account

How do I cancel?

From your account, under Billing. Your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for, and no further charge is made.

Read the refund rules

How do I ask for a refund?

With the form on the Refunds page. Refunds are only asked for that way, never by email.

Open the refund form

What shows on my card statement?

Charges show as DEVELOPERDATA.NET, the company that runs Ice Hockey API.

Read the terms

Where are my receipts?

Under Billing in your account: the payment page there holds your card and every receipt.

Open billing

How do I change plan?

Under Billing in your account. A move up starts at once, with the difference charged.

Change your plan

How do I delete my account?

From your account. Your keys stop at once, and your account and tickets are deleted within 30 days.

Using the data

Can I show the data in my app or site?

Yes, in your own product. Passing the data on as a feed or a copy of the database is not allowed.

Read the terms of use

Can I fetch a whole season at once?

Yes. A season’s games come in pages of up to 200, so a full season is a handful of calls.
